• Emergency structural repair of three precast girders

Project Description:
Emergency repair works were needed for a Railway Bridge under construction for the new double high speed Athens-Patras railway line. The bridge is single span with eight main precast and prestressed girders.
During construction one of the beams fell off the abutments and two others were damaged. The three beams had vertical cracks at the mid span in both sides. Engineers resulted that beams were not structural deficient but for additional safety suggested to apply at the sides of the beams a strengthening system of Tyfo^® Carbon Strips.
The main contractor contacted Fibrwrap Contractors SA on an urgent call basis. Application crew was on site in 24 hours and applied the Tyfo^® Carbon Strips in two days.
Emergency repair was completed without causing actually any delay to the main contractor schedule for the bridge erection.
